ScottishPower to help over 380,000 homes by end of 2008
Leading energy company ScottishPower has announced it is currently on course to complete almost half of its Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) by the end of 2008.
The firm aims to have 46 per cent of its targets hit before the end of December, which would equate to energy efficiency measures installed in over 380,000 homes across the UK.
ScottishPower has also announced it will meet additional CERT targets to carry out such measures in an extra 40,000 homes targeted as "priority group customers".
Willie MacDiarmid, director of energy retail for ScottishPower, said it is "vitally important" to makes homes "as energy efficient as possible" in order to reduce long-term fuel costs.
He added: "We have worked exceptionally hard to establish partnerships and secure resources to reach as many households as we possibly could this winter."
Stewart Hosie, treasury spokesman for the Scottish National Party, has called for the UK government to take "decisive action" to help households facing rising energy costs.
He announced he had written a letter to the Chancellor Alistair Darling.
